On a lift truck, there are a range of different means which raise and lower the lifts, like: rack and pinion lifts, scissor lifts, screw lifts, telescoping lifts and articulated lifts. The scissor lift uses crisscrossed folding supports with a screw system which draws the members together. Rack and pinion lifts utilize a pinion, that is a small drive gear, to drive a straight-toothed rack to raise the load. The telescoping lift mechanism is designed with multiple parts which extend and retract into and out of each other to attain lifting action. Screw lifts utilize threads to raise the lift. Articulated lifts use a mechanism involving multiple sections that unfold or articulate. An example of an articulated lift is the "cherry picker."
Forklift Material Handling
There are a lot of reasons to keep up with innovations in material handling methods. Material handling machinery and the processes could be used to deal with increased geographical coverage, additional SKUs, and the need to lower inventories. Tools that are well ahead of the technological curve could help maximize productivity and increase effectiveness.
Lift truck Battery & Charging Technology
The choice to convert from traditional, internal combustion lift trucks to electric forklifts is a smart one because the latest line-ups of electric lift trucks provide longer run-times and higher capacities than ever before. Charger and battery combinations are offering more power for longer periods than older systems were capable of accomplishing. Improvements in both battery and charger technologies are not only making electric forklifts more productive but they are making it possible to have more environmentally friendly warehouse operations.
These new batteries are called Li-ion batteries or Lithium-Ion batteries. This technology is still quite new, but Li-ion batteries show remarkable promise. They are not only smaller but are capable of holding up to six times the charge of traditional lead acid batteries. Li-ion batteries have very low maintenance needs and can maximize opportunity charging through zero memory technology.
