Forklift Battery Safety
The power to run electric forklifts is supplied by big industrial batteries which need to be charged frequently and maintained correctly. Safety procedures should always be followed while someone connects the battery to the charger. It is really essential to inspect battery fluid levels.
Personal Protective Equipment - PPE
It is essential for workers working with a lift truck battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG consist of safety glasses, goggles, or a full face shield. The right way to protect both skin and clothes from other residue or leaked acid is to put on thick rubber gloves on the hands and an approved apron on the body.
Emergency Eyewash Station
An emergency eyewash post must be situated close to the charging place. The path to the station should not be blocked and an injured worker must be able to go to the eyewash station from the charging place within 10 seconds while walking.
Charger Safety
The charger should be the same amperage as the battery. It must be turned off when the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
Open flames are prohibited in the vicinity of a battery and charging area. Never allow items like lighters or matches to be used when an employee is inspecting the fluid levels in the battery.
Ventilation
It is important to keep the battery charging area well ventilated. The recharging process could cause fumes to be released. These gases are both toxic and explosive.
